Sugar Mountain Resort

The slopes are in the village. The resort publishes a 4,100-foot base, a 5,300-foot summit, and 1,200 feet of vertical, with 20 slopes on 125 skiable acres. Six chairlifts and two Magic Carpets move people, and 14 of the slopes are lit after dark. Snowmaking covers the slopes. Tubing lanes and an outdoor ice rink sit by the base. Opening day still depends on the cold. Check current rates and which lifts are actually spinning.

The village golf course

The village bought the golf course in 1993. It is a village course, not a resort add-on you have to ski to reach. Fees and whether the greens are open live on the village, not on this page. Check current rates before you pack the clubs.

Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls

The village sits between Banner Elk and Grandfather Mountain, with Linville Falls among the hikes it points visitors toward. The state park is the free hiking side of Grandfather. The Mile High Swinging Bridge is a separate gate that charges admission. The Parkway is the scenic way between them, about 8 miles from the village by the village's own count.
